Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about pelvic floor physical therapy? We’re here to help.
What is pelvic floor physical therapy, and how can it help with pelvic pain?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized type of therapy that focuses on the muscles, nerves, and connective tissues in your pelvis. Many people don’t realize that pelvic pain—whether during sex, menstruation, or daily activities—can stem from muscle tension, weakness, or nerve sensitivity in the pelvic floor. We use hands-on manual therapy, gentle stretches, corrective exercises, and education to release tension, improve muscle function, and reduce pain. Our goal is to find the root cause of your discomfort and give you lasting relief.
What should I expect during my first appointment at Bloom Pelvic Health in Needham?
Your first visit is a comprehensive 60-minute evaluation with Dr. Jennifer Vohra or a member of our team. We’ll start by discussing your medical history, symptoms, and goals in a private, judgment-free space. Then, we’ll perform a thorough assessment, which may include posture evaluation, movement screening, and—with your consent—an internal pelvic floor muscle exam. This helps us understand what’s contributing to your pain. At the end of the session, we’ll explain our findings and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Do you accept insurance for pelvic pain physical therapy?
Bloom Pelvic Health & Wellness is an out-of-network provider. We believe in spending quality one-on-one time with our clients, which is why we don’t participate in insurance networks. Payment is due at the time of service via cash, credit card, check, or Venmo. However, many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits, and we’re happy to provide you with a detailed superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We also provide “Good Faith Estimates” upon request so you know exactly what to expect.
How many sessions will I need to see improvement in my pelvic pain?
Every person is different, and treatment length depends on the complexity and duration of your symptoms. Some clients feel relief after just a few sessions, while others with chronic or long-standing pain may benefit from a longer treatment plan. During your first appointment, we’ll give you a clear timeline based on your specific condition and goals. Our focus is always on empowering you with the tools to manage your symptoms long-term—not keeping you dependent on therapy indefinitely.
Is pelvic floor physical therapy only for women?
While we primarily treat women at Bloom Pelvic Health & Wellness, pelvic floor physical therapy can benefit anyone—regardless of gender—who is experiencing pelvic pain, bladder or bowel issues, or sexual dysfunction. If you’re unsure whether pelvic floor PT is right for you, we encourage you to schedule a free phone consultation so we can discuss your specific concerns.
